Your log book

What is in it, what counts, and why a session sometimes does not.

Everything is kept. Not everything scores.

Every piece you record is in your log book โ€” on the water and on the erg. That is a training record, and it is complete.

Scoring is a narrower question. A piece only counts toward your BoatMover Score if it clears every one of these gates:

GateWhy
500 m or longerBelow that, a couple of good strokes distort the whole piece.
60 seconds or longerSame reason. A sprint out of the boathouse is not a measurement.
80% of your maximum heart rateA gentle paddle tells us nothing about your speed. This is the one that needs a strap.
80% held throughout, not just reachedOnce your heart rate first gets there, it may not spend more than 30 seconds below it โ€” or unrecorded, because a strap that drops out is not proof that you held it. Thirty seconds sits between a rest in an interval session (a minute or more) and a turn, a rate change or a moment of sensor noise (a few seconds), so the first is rejected and the second is not. A two-way run is judged one leg at a time, so the spin in the middle is not counted as a dip.
You were rowingA cox does not row, so a cox has no split. If your seat is cox, the piece is logged and never scored โ€” it would otherwise put the boat's speed on your own ladder.

When a piece misses a gate, the app says which one and files the row anyway. Plenty of good rowing sits below the gate โ€” technical work is supposed to.

The one most people miss. Without a heart-rate strap the 80% gate cannot be confirmed, so the piece is recorded and never scores โ€” no matter how fast it was. If you buy one thing for BoatMover, buy a Bluetooth chest strap. Pair it on the setup screen before you push off; the app will tell you the moment it is reading.

Sessions waiting to upload

Your phone records the row first and files it to the club afterwards. If you were out of signal, the row waits on the phone and goes up by itself the next time you open the app with a connection.

When something is waiting, your log book says so and tells you how many. Those rows are not in the totals yet โ€” that is the gap, and it closes on its own.

Why a number may differ from what you expected

Duplicates

Uploading the same erg file twice is safe โ€” the app recognises it and says so rather than logging you twice. If one outing reaches the club by two routes (a phone recording and an erg export of the same effort), both are kept so nothing looks deleted, but only one is counted.
